Avignon Vaucluse, the Return

Oh how the mighty have fallen, last night a Bishop's Palace with view of a city and tonight a view of the train tracks. Nothing a few candles and some Cote Du Rhone can’t fix. I am in one of my favorite cities in France, Avignon. The writer Petrarch said, “Avignon is the hell of living people, the thoroughfare of vice, the sewers of the earth… Prostitutes swarm on Papal beds”. In those days Popes partied hard and with vigor, especially the French ones!

To me Avignon is great memories; it was where I met my folks while backpacking Europe years ago. My Dad was around the age I now am. I also came here with some college buds a bit after. Best was coming here with my wife Lily some years back. The city still sparkles for me especially under the clear Provence sunlight. The small narrow streets and ancient structures with a Pope’s Palace thrown in is unbeatable. Viva Provence! Now if the trains would just stop passing by my one window. Posted by Picasa
