Van Gogh's Room

The magical light that attracted Van Gogh was in abundance in Arles today, such a magical place with small winding streets and ancient buildings. Some even pre- date Roman times. Filling up two digital camera cards took no time, no wonder Vincent painted here.

Vincent Van Gogh moved to Arles in 1888 with the hopes of starting L’Atelier du Sud (the studio in the south) with his buddy Paul Gauguin. Instead he cut off his ear and sent it to a working girl named Rachel, after he went into an asylum. The picture is of a recreation of his room. The original he painted three times, it is said to be his favorite study. Posted by Picasa
