Lyons Silk

Lyons has always been a prosperous city mainly due to the silk industry. In the 1740’s all of Europe was supplies with silk painted goods, tres chic. The slopes of Croix-Rousse is a network of passage ways called Traboules once used to protect sheets of silk from the weather. During WW II they also came in handy for the Resistance fighters. Posted by Picasa
