Whaling Away the Day in Nantucket

As you can see from the picture Nantucket still has a strong link to the fishing way of life. No longer do the whaler's head out for up to three years risking life and limb, its more dealing with tourist hooking themselves. Yet the Island still has such vibes of those past times when the world looked to Nantucket for fuel made from whale blubber. After I visit a place and before I write , I like to read something that gives me a feel of its past. I picked up a copy of, In the Heart Of the Sea: the Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex by Nathaniel Philbrick. The book offered fasinating glimpses not just into the story that inspired Moby Dick but also into past life on the Island. Research is really my favorite part of writing.
