Mr. Baedeker

“Kings and governments may err, but never Mr. Baedeker,” said AP Herbert in 1929. I found that quote and much more info on the guidebooks called Baedeker online at rarebookreview. Baedeker guides were legendary in their authenticity and information and it is said that they where so reliable that during the WW I they provided valuable information for spies.

If so I wonder about the copy I just bought published in 1914 on Southern France? Where did the faded blue ribbon I found folded inside come from? I am looking forward into traveling through Southern France by reading it soon. Better yet, to dream about taking it along next time I visit the area!
