Kobe Beef, It's What's for Dinner
The night before we head off we like to go to dinner just down the street and at the Northern Spy. It is cozy and food is great with something for everyone. It's the kind of place that has a garden out back to grow veggies and herbs and uses them in the food. The wine list is far more extensive than many I have seen in capital cities around the world.
Last night on the menu was Kobe Burgers, that specially farmed beef popular in Japan. I have been seeing Kobe on menus far more lately. I asked the knowledgeable owner George just why? He told me that the Japanese have little room for cattle over there and now has farmers here following their standards. The meat is then packaged and sent to Japan, it is far cheaper that way. Obviously some ends up here in the US, on my plate here in Cottekill.
